Wiedemann's inspiration for the JuzoPro Lumbal stemmed from a desire to redefine the design language in the orthopedic field. After extensive market research and numerous discussions with Juzo, Wiedemann gained a comprehensive understanding of the company's core competencies and the expectations of their clients. This knowledge served as the foundation for the design of the JuzoPro Lumbal, a product that embodies Juzo's commitment to high functionality.
The JuzoPro Lumbal stands out from other orthoses due to its stabilizing and pain-relieving effects on patients with lumbar spine issues. A sacral pad provides additional relief at the transition from the sacrum to the lumbar spine, with frictional nubs that loosen hardened muscle tissue, increase blood flow, and provide a massaging effect. The orthosis also features an elastic and breathable knitted fabric and a specially developed fastening mechanism for optimal fit.
Wiedemann's design is realized through a unique 3D knitting technology that produces the special Xtra fabric with various functional zones. This technology allows for optimal moisture regulation, breathability, maximum freedom of movement, and joint and muscle support. The fabric's construction ensures that the functional characteristics of the various yarns employed complement one another optimally, avoiding pressure points or skin irritation.
The JuzoPro Lumbal is available in six different sizes and two different shapes, catering to a wide range of body shapes and waist types. The orthosis fits tightly to the body and is hardly visible, making it highly suitable for everyday use. The user can easily fasten the orthosis using the finger pockets and tailor the positioning or removal of the sacrum pad.
Wiedemann's design process, which began in 2013 and concluded in 2015 in Munich, was not without its challenges. Designing a pattern for knitted fabric, which combines compression of the body and moisture transport, required careful consideration of each fabric color's function. Furthermore, accommodating six different sizes and two different shapes added to the project's complexity. Despite these challenges, Wiedemann succeeded in creating a design that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.
The JuzoPro Lumbal's innovative design has earned it the prestigious Silver A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2017. This award is a testament to Wiedemann's remarkable design expertise and innovation, further solidifying the JuzoPro Lumbal's position as a game-changer in the orthopedic industry.
